Old World Christmas is the premier brand of Christmas ornaments in the country. The founders, Tim and Beth Merck, a couple who shared a special love for Christmas, are credited with revitalizing the art of mouth-blown fine glass ornaments as a result of their reintroducing figurative designs to the United States in 1979.
Today, Old World Christmas offers the most extensive and best-loved collection with nearly 2,000 proprietary designs in styles ranging from traditional to whimsical. This ornament features the bloom of a yellow rose, the image common down here in Texas because of the folk song, "The Yellow Rose of Texas" which references a young woman of the same name, thought to be Emily D. West, who according to legend, contributed to the Battle of San Jacinto.
Also commonly thought, a rose is one of the most beautiful flowers of nature. It expresses promise, hope and new beginnings, but is contrasted by the sharp thorns. The thorns protect the delicate bush and allow it to share its beauty. A yellow rose is often associated with showing affection and friendship.
