Fontanini Abram Shepherd

Abram the shepherd is shown in a moment of rest, leaning upon the stone as one wearied from the keeping of the flock. His staff lies across him, never far from his hand, for he remains ever watchful.

At his side rests a faithful dog, a companion in his labors, abiding with him in quiet loyalty. Though his eyes are closed in repose, his duty is not forgotten.

The task of herding sheep was usually delegated to the very old and very young. Possibly named after Abraham the father of Israel, we hope he isn't too startled when the angels appear to herald the birth of the Messiah.

Thus, he is as the shepherds of old—humble and steadfast—who kept their watch by night and were near when the tidings of great joy were made known.
