The Three Kings—Melchior, Balthazar, and Gaspar—are portrayed as wise men from afar, journeying in search of the newborn King. They come bearing their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, as foretold in ancient days.
Clothed in flowing robes adorned with rich detail, in hues of white, gold, deep blue, and the tones of the earth, they bow in reverence. Each offers his gift with solemn purpose, honoring the Christ Child.
Thus they stand as witnesses to the Light that has come into the world, guided by faith and the star that shone before them.
Traditionally the magi are only added to the nativity scene on Epiphany or King's Day. A fun way to do this is to move a star to a new location each day in your home. Have your children move the wisemen to follow the star each day until it leads them to the nativity scene.
