Roman soldiers and centurions are found throughout the gospel accounts and were some of the first Gentile followers of Jesus. This soldier could be placed with Mary and Joseph as they depart from Nazareth to Bethlehem for the census. He could be the centurion who asked Jesus to heal his son. He could be one of the soldiers that arrested Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemene or at Jesus's crucifixion or guarding His tomb.
